Whatisnew.com (WIN) is a member of the Tux Reports Network. WIN started in August 1996 and was the customer communications blog for a computer components distributor. Today, WIN is run by Tux Reports Network and has evolved into a center for news and information related to mobile PCs, Tablet PCs, UMPCs, Netbooks and other personal computer technologies.

Lora Heiny

Lora Heiny is an independent consultant working with software companies to establish partner relationships in emerging segments. She is passionate about student access to technology and information, particularly 1:1 computing environments. Her current project is with Microsoft Education Product Group, Courseware & Devices team.

Personal interest in mobile and handwriting technology is expressed on WhatIsNew.com. Consumer software applications that support Tablet & Touch technology are highlighted on the software download directory TabletPCPost.com, as well as discussed by community members in other sites belonging to the TuxReports Network, which she has been Managing Editor of for over a decade.

Lora currently uses a Lenovo ThinkPad x61 Tablet PC and a TabletKiosk UMPC.

Layne Heiny

Owner of the Tux Reports Network, Editor of TechnologyQuestions.com, contributor to TabletPCPost.com, Whatisnew.com, and many other sites. Layne has over a couple decades of experience in the computer components industry. Currently, he is using his background in biochemistry to teach chemistry at Pete Knight High School in Palmdale, CA.

Layne has some great tips on how to use Tablet PCs in the classroom on TechnologyQuestions forums. Layne also holds several networking and computer technical certifications. His personal blog is full of Linux information.

Loren Heiny

Loren has written numerous books on programming and is an experienced commercial software developer. His first love is robotics, although natural interaction is a close second.

Microsoft first awarded Loren with Tablet PC MVP in 2003 and he has been reawarded every year since. He currently uses a Toshiba Portege M700 Tablet PC and Apple iMac for software development.

Robert Heiny

"I try to assist people use tools that unlock curiosity and opportunities to break social codes required for survival and success. My specialty has been in organizational development in order to increase personal benefits for students through education. This specialty emerged while serving in senior faculty or research appointments at University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, Peabody College of Vanderbilt University, & The Florence Heller Graduate School for Advanced Studies in Social Welfare at Brandeis University as well as former Director of the Montana Center on Disabilities. Serving as a partner in a high tech business allowed me to test some of my academic ideals in reality."

Joan Heiny

Joan has written for Whatisnew since 1996. She contributes to product availability updates, pricing trends, and usability issues. Joan prefers to use slate form factor Tablet PCs with wide viewing angles. Currently she uses a Motion Computing LE1700.
